HOW CAN A DOULA HELP ME?

FAQ: FAQ

HOW WILL HIRING A DOULA AFFECT MY BIRTH EXPERIENCE?

A doula is gentle yet strong supportive presence assisting your family from pregnancy through labor & birth into post partum.  She will listen to you, offer information, help you understand your options, advocate for you, offer comfort measures in labor, help you choose effect labor positions, and she will be a non-judgemental open heart & helpful pair of hands journeying with you beyond birth into motherhood.

WHEN IS A GOOD TIME TO IN MY PREGNANCY TO HIRE A DOULA?

Anytime! As soon as you find out you're pregnant or as soon as you're ready for support!   You do not need to wait until closer to birth to hire a doula.  Doulas can help you navigate emotions, nutrition, and your journey throughout pregnacy- its like having someone in your corner to share with and ask questions!

WHEN DO I CALL MY DOULA?

Your doula is available for texts or call support throughout your pregnancy care.  You are welcome to ask questions, we are here for you!

Call/text your doula when you have ANY signs of early labor!

It is best to let your birth team know you are getting close even if labor hasn't become active yet- so you can begin initial contact and feel supported all the way through your birthing process.

WHAT WILL WE DO IN PRENATAL APPOINTMENTS?

Doulas provide information to help families make choices in labor and offer advocacy for mothers in the birth place; reducing the need for pain relief and medical interventions.

We will listen to your needs, questions, hopes and concerns and help you make a plan for your birth that is personal to your values.

Our appointments are 1 -2 hours long;  we take the time to get to know you and your family's priorities so we can serve you best.

HOW LONG WILL MY DOULA BE WITH ME IN LABOR?

Doulas stay with mothers throughout labor, helping them choose effective positions to progress labor, offering comfort measures such as touch & counter pressure, offering visualizations & affirmations and guide breathing techniques.

Doulas may also help support the birth partner or family throughout labor when they need rest.  And doulas may act as an advocate for mother in the birth room, when needed.

If there is a hospital transport, there is temporarily a policy (due to Covid)  that only one birth support person is allowed into hospital with a laboring mother.  If mother chooses another birth partner (such as baby's other parent), our doulas will remain outside the hospital but stay available to provide phone support throughout labor.

HOW WILL I REACH MY DOULA IN LABOR?

Your doula will be on call for your labor round the clock 24/7 starting at 38 weeks of pregnancy.

She will give you both her direct cell phone number, as well as a backup doula's number, so you can be confident you will have support.
